Beach Luxury: Staying at Coco Tulum

Tuesday, 25 April 2017

It is the perfect Instagram accommodation. Straw roofed beach huts, sitting on the edge of the ocean, with everything as crisply white as can be. Coco Tulum was one of those honeymoon accommodation options that just seemed to picture perfect to be true. It was pictures of the hotel's beachfront bar that originally caught my attention on Insta, it seemed like somewhere that was just too pretty to be true.

We booked a Superior Room with a Garden View, because to be honest, I really like to have my own bathroom. There are a few different accommodation options though, both with shared and private bathrooms, including the Tower accommodation, cabanas, and the luxurious Suite 43. The beachfront bar often hosts DJs and parties, especially on public holidays and special occasions, so it can be a little loud if you're staying right around the bar, but they often wrap up quite early (around 9/10pm) for the peace of guests.

Coco Tulum is found on the Tulum Beach Strip, just under one kilometre from Ziggy Beach and about 10 kilometres from the Tulum Mayan Ruins and National Park. Playa Paraiso can also be found within 10 kilometres.

In the spirit of honesty though, it is a good idea to remember that Coco Tulum is an eco-lodge. To fast-paced travellers like us this meant phones, cameras and tablets took a lot longer to charge, wifi is slower and less consistent, shower water is often not hot enough or strong enough to feel properly clean and you are definitely going to find some creepy crawlies inside your beach hut. But even I have to admit, despite the annoyances of an eco-lodge, Coco Tulum was a beautiful and incredibly peaceful place to stay.
