Have You Tried Renting A Golf Cart?

Monday, 10 April 2017

If you want to visit the whole island of Isla Mujeres and not just the main town, the only way to do it is with a golf cart. Pretty much the main and only form of transport around the little island, golf carts are by far the most fun and relaxing way to experience and explore the island. I heard a whisper that there are only 500 golf carts on the island and they ALL get booked out every single day. Isn't that crazy?!

We had one full day to explore Isla Mujeres and we were leaving on the Ultramar at about 11am, so we decided the best option for us would be to rent a golf cart for 24 hours. If you want to book a golf cart from your hotel you have to get in early, preferably the day or two before. We turned up at Mia Reef's reception at about 10am only to be told that they had rented out all the golf carts for that day. Luckily, right at the end of the Mia Reef boardwalk you will find Easy Cart Rentals inside the reception of Villa Kiin on Zazil-ha, which is where we rented our golf cart from. Nice, easy and super fast, we were off on the road before we knew it.

The golf cart cost us $1140 Pesos for 24 hours and it had to be some of the most fun we had on the island. We absolutely loved driving around in our cart, stopping wherever we wanted to to take photos and check something out, the wind knotting up my hair and smacking into our faces. It only takes about one hour to drive the whole way around the island, giving you plenty of time to check everything the island has to offer.

Some of the best places you can find on Isla Mujeres are the most easily accessible by golf cart. You could ride a bicycle around the whole island but it would take significantly longer and there roads weren't the best for bike riding in my opinion. I'm going to write a complete post on them next, but make sure you check out Tortugranja Turtle Farm, Playa Norte Beach, Punta Sur at Acantilado del Amanecer. Getting out of the main town and exploring also offers you some of the most beautiful views of the Caribbean Ocean and the surrounding reefs.
