So we’re back! Can you believe how fast the past 5 or 6 weeks have flown by? It’s been a great big blur of wedding preparation, a million wedding photos, too many flights to count, adventures, topical locations and some much much needed relaxing as husband and wife. It has been amazing! Being back home and settling back into home life and regular routines has definitely caused a little post holiday depression in both of us. I am especially struggling with normal life again – grocery shopping, cleaning, city traffic, gross. But the last month has been epic, holidays can’t be endless when you have a real job… can they?! I can’t wait to get right down to sharing a whole heap of posts about our honeymoon and even a couple about our wedding to take you all on the ride with us. To get started though, here is a quick run down of where we’ve been and what we’ve been doing for the last 5 weeks!
It’s been 5 weeks now since our wedding day, I can’t believe how fast it came around. At the risk of sounding cliche, the wedding day totally flew by way too fast. We really tried to appreciate and experience every single moment, but honestly, I just wished it had gone for longer! I will put up a complete post (or maybe two) on our wedding when I get our professional photos, but for a quick overview our ceremony was held at Alowyn Gardens and our reception around the corner at Zonzo Winery Estate, which are both located in the Yarra Valley in Victoria, Australia.

Booked to leave just one day after the wedding, we were super excited to get away on our honeymoon. Planning the wedding, especially the last couple of months, had ended up being a little bit full on and stressful – I didn’t believe that the guest list would be that stressful but OMG I did find myself questioning a couple of times why we hadn’t eloped! With all the craziness of the wedding the excitement for the honeymoon hadn’t really kicked in until we got to the airport, it was kind of an after thought that we had forgotten about.
The honeymoon was amazing. We had such a fantastic time, really enjoyed just spending some time by ourselves, after what felt like months of running between meetings and schedules about the wedding, and actually relaxed for the first time in my whole life. Before we really jump right into all the details and specifics, I thought I would give you a very quick overview of where we spent the last month with a couple of pictures.
Our first stop was Mexico, one of my favourite countries in the whole world. I don’t know what it is about Mexico but I always feel better there. The food is amazing, the natural attractions are jaw dropping and all my digestive issues magically clear up in this special place (even when I eat cheese!). We hopped around Mexico City, Cabo San Lucas, Isla Mujeres and Tulum, exploring cenotes, ruins, ancient cities and enjoying that island life. If you needed to wear real shoes, I didn’t want to be there!
From Mexico we flew out to Belize to explore San Ignacio and Caye Caulker and take a scenic flight over the Great Blue Hole. Phenomenal. It’s crazy when you see these natural wonders in real life after looking at pictures for so long, it was breathtaking.
While we were in Belize we took a day trip over to Guatemala to visit the ancient Mayan ruins of Tikal. It was a long day with the two hour drive (each way) from San Ignacio in Belize, but it was definitely worth it.
Next stop was sloth hunting and waterfall hopping in Costa Rica. We visited La Fortuna and Manuel Antonio and experienced both action packed adventure and the most relaxing resort I’ve ever been to. We managed to find a sloth in the wild, WITH A BABY, climbing down from it’s tree!! The excitement was a little out of control!
Our last country was USA. We started in New Orleans, sipping hurricanes during the day, grabbing take away cocktails (when are these coming to Melbourne?!), riding airboats and searching for alligators; and then followed up in Texas, pretending to be cowboys, watching rodeos and cattle drives and even caught an NBA game.
We then flew over to Arizona where we drove all over the state! Drove through desert and then snow and then desert again crossing the state to the Utah boarder. We explored Monument Valley, sat on the edge of the drop at Horseshoe Bend, visited the Grand Canyon, and then made the LOOOOOONG (and boring) drive to California, before spending the last couple of days of our honeymoon in the LA winter sunshine. What I wouldn’t give to have seasons like LA.
It was an epic adventure and the best way to celebrate the first month of our marriage! I can’t wait to share hundreds of pictures, helpful hints and ideas with you guys about all the places we visited. If this sneak peak isn’t enough and you need more, make sure you check out my Instagram account @amakebelieveworld for all the pictures I posted while we were away. If you just can’t wait and want specific information about something feel free to comment or email me any time, I’d love to hear from you! I’ll be launching right into it this week so make sure you check in often!
